The Galilee – 3 Tours

Introduction

The Galilee is a mountainous area in the North of Israel. The peaks reach altitudes ranging from 500m (1640ft) in the Lower Galilee to 900m (3000ft) in the Upper Galilee. The region is rich in spring-fed streams flowing both west to the Mediterranean Sea and east to the Sea of Galilee.

The Galilee has played an important role in all of the history of the Land of Israel.

The area was part of the Northern Kingdom of Israel following the split from the Kingdom of Judea in 928 BCE.  Jesus was raised in Nazareth.  The Sea of Galilee was the site of much of his spiritual activity and it was here that many of the events described in the Gospels took place.

After the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, much of Jewish life was in the Galilee, establishing it as the nation's spiritual and cultural center.  It was in this area that the books of the Mishna were sealed and many of the greatest rabbinic sages lived and taught.

In addition to the ancient villages, synagogues and churches, a tour of the Galilee includes spectacular viewpoints of modern Israel with its cities and towns, agricultural kibbutzim and moshavim, and high tech industries.

The area offers adventures including: horseback riding, donkey rides, kayaking and rafting, jeep tours, hiking, ice skating, shooting range, 4x4 off-trail vehicles (ATV), zip lines, and mountain biking.  Water sports on the Sea of Galilee include: sailing, water skiing, banana split, jet skis and guided boat tours.
